Cooking Tips For RV Owners
Performing regular chores like cooking while you’re on a camping trip can make you feel like you’re not getting the most out of your vacation, even though it’s necessary. You might even consider going out for fast food or grabbing snacks instead of meals, just to avoid sweating it out in a small, hot kitchen. However, if you take some practical steps, you can easily prepare food in your camper with no fuss.
Prep in Advance
Taking the time to prepare some batches of your favorite dinners at home can save you a headache on the road. Portion out baked lasagna, chili, casseroles, pot roasts, and any other favorite recipes that you prepare in your home kitchen into Tupperware containers and pop these in your RV’s freezer. All you need to do is toss these in the microwave to have a hot meal in minutes!
Clean While You Cook
The space in your RV kitchen is limited, so try to put ingredients away as soon as you’ve used them, rinse knives and cutting boards, and set pans aside to soak. Scrape vegetable cuttings into the compost and rinse dishes as soon as the meal is done to avoid them getting sticky.
Try Cold Meals
Plenty of delicious cold meals can be created from leftover grilled meats, vegetables, leftover starches, and everyday pantry staples. A cold pasta salad or green salad topped with diced grilled chicken makes a lovely summer dinner, while granola and fruit parfaits can be your breakfast. Serve sandwiches with chips and pickles for lunch. Everyone will be happy and full without you having to turn on a single heating element.
